Seleucid (42) vs Mithridatic (105)
For the second game, it was into battle against Paul's Mithridatic foe. This time pike on pike action with a little bit of legionary and barbarian refinement. I was invited to attack in the plains. With the benefit of the coastline the deployment plan was simplified. Moreover, given I would be moving first the pikes should be capable of manoeuvring through the plantation without opposition.
Which of course they duly achieved. However, with the threat to my open left flank I decided that it would be prudent to initially refuse that flank.
With the Seleucid Light Cavalry occupying the enemy Light Cavalry it was timely to confront the enemy cavalry with equal numbers. On the coastline the barbarians were goaded into charging the pikes and legionaries, which with any good fortune would not go well for them.
And as predicted it did not go well for the Barbarians. However, the Seleucid centre fared less well on contact, and indeed the Argyraspides included general is a very sick man indeed. Also, the Cavalry battle has not been an auspicious success with one Cataphract destroyed by the enemy.Outcome
A Seleucid victory inflicting 24 losses and suffering 15 of 23 in return.
