ADLG - Game Report 265

Seleucid (42) vs Republican Roman (53)

For the final experiment with this Army, with minor tinkering of the commands, I faced Robin's Republican Romans. I was invited to defend in the plains, and fortunately the terrain provided a strong left flank for me to position myself against. Consequently, we deployed the cavalry command on the right with the two infantry commands supporting each other in the centre.

On deeper reflection the Cavalry command was moved to the left, and possibly reserve positions, as there was increasingly less room for them to manoeuvre on the right flank.

The glacial advance of both sides infantry commands continues. On the left flank it looks like the Cavalry will need to be committed there to close the gap exposing the left flank of the infantry command.

The Greek Cavalry command has deployed to protect the left flank. The infantry battle has generated mixed results, with some breakthroughs achieved. Could they be exploited to destroy the Roman Legions?

The Infantry Command's left flank has been exposed again, but there are more breakthrough positions available, that is if we can expect the very sick units to survive the next round of combats.

The Cavalry Command has been committed to stabilise the left flank after a pike unit was destroyed. The failure to advance the pikes after combat and exploit the breakthrough's is now self-evident.

Despite the success of the Cavalry counter-attack and the victory by the Argyraspides, the remainder of the right flank of the army looks disjointed and weak.

Outcome

A Roman victory by only losing 20 of their 23.
