Song Chinese (225) vs Jurchen Jin (227)
Beachhead day one game one, fighting Lance's Jurchen Jin. This would be another period and regional match up. I had looked at Lance's army and it was one of three different Chinese armies I could have fielded. The main difference between the two has that his was a cavalry army with cataphracts and a small number of infantry, too my Army which had a modest amount of cavalry, no cataphracts, and lots of infantry. I was invited to defend in the Mountains and the resulting terrain mix left us a wide-open flank and a flank congested with terrain. The Song cavalry were deployed on the left with the infantry wings centre and right.
The Song centre moved forward to force the Jurchin Jin cavalry to engage or move away out of crossbow range, while the Song Cavalry being outnumbered were moved to the rear covered by the impact cavalry.
With the Song cavalry no longer outnumbered on the left they have decided to move forward again, and they would have been more fleet of foot if their command had been better. In the centre the Polearm units have moved forward reinforced by those from the right.
In the initial cavalry contact a Song heavy impact cavalry unit were destroyed in contact by the Jurchen Jin cataphracts. In the centre the infantry are waiting for the enemy cavalry to charge. On the right the mixed bow and sword units of bow sides have engaged with the results slightly in favour of the enemy.
On the right the battle in the brush is consuming units from both sides equally In the centre the enemy continue to avoid contact. While on the left the Song Cavalry general is fighting for his life, as are his troops around him.
Outcome
A Jurchen Jin victory in which they lost 12 of their 24. Spoiler Alert!! In the end although it was a loss it was for Lance only one of his first wins which would eventually bring him out top of the tree in the competition.
