Mayan (284) vs Chinantec (287)

Thinking beyond Kegworth to Warfare both Kevin and I decided to enter the Meso-American tournament – the first in UK. So I decided to build Mayan while Kev went with the Chinantec. This would be our first outing. So first the obligatory picture of the Mayan line of battle – with the Great Mayan God of War Buluc Chabtan leading his troops into battle.

I won the initiative and decided to attack in the plains. I have to confess the wall of pikes is somewhat intimidating. Despite this we put a brave face on with the two similar commands of elite two-handed cutting weapons and atlatls in the centre commanded by Buluc Chabtan and the left commanded by the Goddess of war Cadmaela. There is a smaller supporting command on the right.

The closer we drew the lines the more intimidating the wall of pikes became.

The competing skirmishers withdrew, while on the right the wings engage.

The Chinantec pikes have moved forward to support the flank of their left wing, but the battle is causing wounds to both sides.

The battle line is now fully engaged; it will be who can destroy their opponent the quickest and move onto a flank.

The answer to the previous question has been overtaken by the authority that having a two-handed cutting weapon confers when fighting pikes! The Mayans have broken through in the centre and on the left and right.

Outcome

A Mayan victory suffering 25 of 27 cohesion hits in the process.

Lessons Learnt

The commands are so big it is difficult to move them when one lacks command points. This is why we often perhaps see Paul's Zapotecs form in two lines.

The benefits of the main-line of battle being elite was ably demonstrated in this battle; the elite status of many of the fights became draws which meant we won inflicting a hit on the pikes.
