Germans – Batavian Revolt (91) vs Parthians (102)
I had entered the Old Codgers event at which I decided to use the Germans from the Batavian Revolt. Naturally I decided to have some practice with them before heading up-north for the event in October. Harry decided that he would offer battle with the Parthians. I was fortunate to be able to defend in the Woods, but as I discovered this was an illusory promise of victory!
I decided that I needed to try and secure the wood on the right. However, the command dice decided otherwise and before we could secure it the Parthians were in it or beyond it. The German and Roman Cavalry are starting to deploy with the aim of overwhelming the Parthian right. While of course the steadfast Roams would secure the centre.
The opposing lines merge, but with many warbands unable to get into the fight.
The Roman and German Cavalry has been forced to extend the Legionary line on the left, and is now paying for it. While the Legionaries have suffered in the contact. The warbands to their right haven’t done much better; as perhaps could be predicted one of them was overran by the Camelphracts.
As a small mercy one of the warbands has destroyed a Camelphract. However, the rest of the line is looking decidedly dodgy; one might call it a bit sticky! Holes are being created by the Cataphracts and the if their command is good enough next turn we are in serious trouble.
And yes, their command was good enough with command points galore to allow the Cataphracts to manoeuvre onto our flanks. Albeit that a Legionary unit has been able to do that to a Cataphract but at the expense of exposing its duff invitingly to the enemy. Elsewhere Camelphracts have had their reward and are now breaking through the right flank.
There are notably fewer Germans left, and the Romans who have defected in support of the Batavians are also suffering for the temerity to rise up against the empire!
Outcome
A win for the Parthians by only suffering 10 losses to my 27.
