ADLG - Game Report 99

German-Tencteri (91) vs Kushan (102)

The second open game was against Derek, a fellow Brit and ex-signaller – therefore I wouldn’t expect a free ride from this battle. A least in this game I would have the opportunity to give some better terrain to my Allies to fight over – one lesson learnt from the previous game.

However, an Ambush need not be a false ambush. I think the Elephants were lying prone in the plantation, which is why I didn’t see them. It also looked like the Cataphracts in the centre were going for broke.

Those cataphracts were not stopping for anyone. Least of all my included General who they rolled over with a 6-to-1 defeat in the first round of combat. The rest of that command weren’t looking too healthy either. In the plantation the elephant trampled my swordsmen under feet, but the escorts were butchered by the warband.

My centre is no more, as the Cataphracts mop up the remains. However, the elephant did not escape the plantation, and my allies are hunting down what they can. On the left the German cavalry are holding their own, but to no avail.

Outcome

A win for Derek by 30 to 18, which seemed that it was a closer battle than the cohesion hits recorded.

Lessons Learnt

  • An ambush is only a false ambush once it is revealed!
  • I need a Plan B once a command has been over-ridden.
