Andalusian Arab (133) vs Arab Conquest (130)

Onto the final outing of the day. This time Arab-on-Arab battle, against Paul’s Arab Conquest army. Paul has started to really enjoy making the table difficult with terrain. I decide on the same approach as used against the Vandals. However, the thought of the Cavalry on the left going into the sand dunes would be a challenge, especially trying to confront the camels.

No alarms at this stage as we advance away from the brush and hill.

The enemy light cavalry has decided to withdraw. Meanwhile it looks like the Arab infantry line is dividing, will this provide a worthwhile target to split their line?

The world shakes as the two lines collide into each other with the Andalusian’s slightly ahead at this stage.

Holes in the respective lines are now merging, the question at this stage (as is often the case) is whose command and control with allow them to exploit the gaps and how quickly. On the left the fight in the dunes continues with the Arab Conquest army now sending in to the dunes its cavalry.

Both sides are trading blows and trying hard to exploit the gaps left in the lines. In the dunes the Arab Conquest forces have prevailed, and similarly on the right. The Andalusian Cavalry despite their advantages are finding it hard to break down the enemy infantry who are continuing to fight stubbornly (aka rolling better combat dice as usual). The losses however on both sides is relatively equal.

In the end it all came down to one or two combats to push one of us, or even both of us, over the line. In the end the result came down to some excellent last ditch fighting by the Arab Conquest forces.

Outcome

A win for Arab Conquest by 24 of 25 to my loss of 26 – close by anyone’s counting.

Lessons Learnt

  • The economy of effort strategy in the dunes seemed to work well this time.
